The peeps in question are, of course, marshmallow peeps, those colorful candies that come into season sometime around Easter. While many debate about their edibility, few know of the inner life of peeps and their favorite sport: jousting.

Each peep trainer takes two toothpicks and sticks one under each wing. The peeps are then placed facing each other in the dueling arena, known to some as the microwave oven. When the microwave is turned on, the beast within each peep is released. They swell to gargantuan size and battle to the death. When one peep pierces the other with its toothpick lance, the victor continues to swell while the victim deflates into a puddle of goo.

Betting on the outcome of these gruesome contests is half the fun.
