A port of call is an ocean-going port, other than a vessel's home port, at which it will stop and enter (make a call) in order to load or unload cargo or passengers (even temporarily). If a cruise ship, for example, starts and finishes a cruise in Miami and stops at six Caribbean ports, the Caribbean ports are the ports of call; Miami is the home port.
