The principal focus of a lens is the point where all incident rays parallel to the principal axis of the lens will pass trough.

ie. Any paraxial ray going through the lens will pass through the principal focus.

The principal focus is the distance of the focal length away from the centre of the lens.

The principal focus also applies to curved mirrors.
