A precursor of punk rock. A "back to the roots" backlash to the excesses
of progressive rock in the 70's; bands ("bar bands" in US English) with
varied mixes of country rock, rhythm and blues, rockabilly and whatnot
in their respective styles. Ducks Deluxe, Eddie and the Hot Rods, Brinsley
Schwarz, Graham Parker and the Rumour... Some alumni kept the faith, like Nick Lowe, some expanded upon it (Elvis Costello, Squeeze); others lost their way (The Motors; The Records).
