'Pulling the chute' is a reference to pulling the rip-cord on a parachute. It is a euphanism for bailing on your friends, or deciding not to go out to do something with them.
For example:
Q:So are you coming out with us or what?
A:No I think I'm gonna pull the chute tonight.
