Pyruvate is stabilized pyruvic acid. This stabilized salt is pyruvic acid bonded to calcium, sodium, magnesium or potassium.

Pyruvic acid is created in the latter stages of glycolysis, along with ATP.

Pyruvate, taken orally, has been argued to effectively promote fat loss. As with any fad molecule, pyruvate is suspected to lower blood pressure and cholesterol, assist in lean muscle mass retention and raise resting metabolic rate.
