rec.arts.anime.misc is the usenet newsgroup that is the largest devoted to anime. High percentage of opinions, newbies, debates, and sometimes nifty things. Don't ever start anything related to fansubs, subs/dubs, or cute and you'll be fine. Definetly the place to lurk for awhile before posting.
