A metal
clothesline consisting of a pole, and a square, rotating
frame that can be raised or lowered. The frame has
wires on it, on which one conventionally pegs
clothes. An exceptionally convenient clothesline, as one is not required to continually haul a heavy basket full of clothes, but considered by many to be unsightly. The structure is more or less permanent unlike many other clotheslines which may be partially disassembled when not in use. Popular in older outer suburban houses, where the yards are large enough to accomodate a large structure on a full-time basis.
A rotary clothesline is often used by unsupervised children as a piece of play equipment. They hang off the wires and go around as their friends rotate the frame. These children have a fantastic time until they inevitably cause themselves serious injury.
