What you do when you want to test something. Sort of a
trial by fire. The idea is that the
traitor will be revealed when he acts upon his deep-seated instinct to
salute at the sight of the flag of his homeland.... or something like that.
Example usage: "Does that code work?" "I don't know. Run it up the flagpole and see who salutes."
