This makes a good amount of baking clay for things like Christmas ornaments, funky baubles for the rear view mirror or mobiles, and it is safe and fun to do with little kids.

Mix 1 ½ cups of flour with 1 ½ cups salt. Wisk the two together for a smooth powder. Mix in ¾ to 1 cup water and knead until the dough is smooth, elastic and not too sticky to roll out. At first it might seem sort of gritty but this will change as you knead it. Using a light dusting of flour to keep the dough from sticking to the table, roll the dough to about ½ inch thick. Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes or just make free form designs. Make a hole at the top if you want to hang them up. Bake your shapes at 350 degrees for twenty minutes. Cool, paint and admire!

Hint: Do not make your dough too thick or it will not harden all the way. Also, the thicker pieces tend to puff out a little.
