A sectional cause group is a classification of pressure group. It is a pressure group which cannot be easily classed as either a cause group or a sectional group.

This sort of group has both sectional interests and interests in a specific cause. So, for example, Liberty fights for a specific section of society (the people) for a specific cause (their rights). The CBI is the same, it fights for British industries over a specific cause, business interests.

Because of this mixing of the two classifications, sectional cause inherits certain characteristics from the two. For example, only certain people can become members of this sort of group (though sometimes the section of society is pretty broad).

This sort of classification is often used to classify NIMBY groups.
