shebang

• An English phrase for "everything" in a way, when referring to an act, process, or production. Doesn't make sense unless you say, "the whole shebang."
  


• As mentioned above, the pronunciation of the character string "#!", if someone pronounces this pound-bang, number-sign-bang,pound-exclamation-point, or number-sign-exclamation-point ... slap them. Kinda symbolic, considering the first definition, when used before the /usr/bin/perl, dontcha think? no? Well, neither do I!

The character sequence "#!" that frequently begins executable shell scripts under Unix. Probably derived from "shell bang" under the influence of American slang "the whole shebang" (everything, the works).
