A favorite terminology of musicians referring to the overall tone of an instrument being played; in this case the tone and it's quality, whether good or bad, is directly influenced by the technique used to play it with. Two different people may play the same piano piece, and yet one will sound infinitely more beautiful and flowing.

Singing tone only comes about with practice and emotional attachment to music in general. When a player can move beyond the notes on the page and start assigning a personal meaning to each one, singing tone may be properly achieved. However, some people can never reach this kind of beauty in their playing.
