A circular piece of felt exactly the same size as a 12" vinyl record. It replaces the rubber mat on the turntable, allowing one to stop or move the record without stopping the motor on the turntable.

Some DJs, notably extreme scratch DJs like DJ Q-bert, use wax or grease between turntable and slipmat to further decrease the friction. It is important to remember that the slipmat replaces the original rubber mat that most turntables come with, something that some new DJs(famous example: Kemistry and Storm) don't understand.

The slipmat is often adorned with artwork or the logos of record companies and DJ equipment manufacturers. In fact, a Numark turntable specifically designed for DJ use could very well ship with a Numark slipmat.
