Website that confirms, debunks and explains many urban legends; the Mythbusters of the internet. Run by husband and wife David and Barbara Mikkelson, the site has gained a reputation for being the definitive argument settler on questions such as, "Is Tommy Hilfiger a racist?," "Did some kid die trying to find Spongebob?," and "Was Gatorade named after the Florida Gators?"

Founded in 1995, snopes.com has a massive database of stories, hoaxes, rumors and myths that all go into 43 basic categories, from the general Politics to the super-specific Cokelore (and, no, Coca-Cola did not create Santa Claus).

The interest site name actually has nothing to do with folklore, and is the name of a recurring family in the works of William Faulkner.
