Essentially a hard forkball, a two-seam fastball with the index and middle fingers gripping the ball in an exaggerated, V-shape; you get a fastball that breaks sharply at the plate. Championed by Roger Craig, during his tenure as manager of the San Francisco Giants, and by Dave Duncan, as a pitching coach for the Oakland A's, it was a big success, most notably for Oakland's formerly-so-so Dave Stewart. The long-term effects - potential arm injury and loss of velocity - took the bloom off the rose.
