(Neorealism) This style of realist thought is unconcerned with whether people are inherently good or evil. Instead, it focuses on the international system and the constraints faced by it. Structural realists strictly demarcate levels of analysis into micro level, meso level, and macro level. The structure of the international environment is established by relational, or relative, power. As with classical realism, states are seen as unitary, rational actors. The unipolar, bipolar, multipolar, or accentric nature of the balance of power is key to structural realist analysis. The most important neorealist thinker is probably Kenneth Waltz.
