high schools in Britain dismiss the senior pupils for a period known as study leave. This means
fifth form at all
schools, and both the upper- and
lower sixth where relevant.
The system is that no lessons are scheduled for these pupils. They only have to come into school when they have an exam. However, a lot of schools offer students the opportunity to revise in the school library and use other facilities such as the computer lab. Otherwise, they are free to revise at home.
Study leave is a very useful period, provided it is used wisely. There is a strong temptation among teenagers to squander the free days at the pub or online. Self-discipline is crucial if exams are to be passed.
