A round coin used specifically for subterranean subway transportation, a value object that represents 1 subway fare. These tokens inspired the term for token-ring networks, since only 1 may ride when holding the token. The history of tokens themselves hark back to the days when money was issued as seashells, (see the syndicated comic strip B.C.), however in North America they were first commonly used and become famous in the NYC subway transit system. They are also widely used on the TTC subway in Toronto Canada, where they are the best deal in fares excluding monthly unlimited passes.

Be cautious not to use these as dimes, as they are relatively similar in size, though lighter in weight.
