It's not really the frequency, it's the percentage of the teenaged population which becomes pregnant that constitutes the rate, a rather biased number since only females are counted with accuracy, while the impregnating males are not necessarily included in the statistics. While often linked to "low income" portions of the population, that is due in large part because those in a higher socio-economic bracket have better access to insured medical care and abortions.

In the UK most people seem to think it's down to poor sex education.

I was appalled at a recent survey which suggested that the majority of 16-18 year old's would/did not use condoms. It would appear to me to be the fault of the It'll Never Happen To Me attitude a lot of them appear to have. There are no excuses for not having them, you do not even have to pay for them over here.

With AIDS on the increase, something needs to be done about teenagers casual attitude to sex.
