The Association of Pet Dog Trainers is a professional organization of individual trainers who are committed to becoming better trainers through education.

The association was founded in 1993 by Dr. Ian Dunbar as a forum for trainers to associate with one another and to discuss topics of mutual interest. It has since become a member-driven organization producing educational conferences in locations throughout the United States. The "big conference" held anually has grown from 250 participants a few years ago to over 1100 participants in 1998.

Membership in the organization has grown at a similar rate to over 1200 members worldwide. The organization is a voice for pet dog tainers. They offer a unique opportunity for professional networking and sharing of ideas through the conferences, membership directory, newsletter, and seminars.

The APDT offers individual pet trainers a respected and concerted voice in the dog world. APDT continues to promote public awareness to the veterinary profession and to increase public awareness,
