According to Buddhism all reality as we know it is conditioned. However, there also is unconditioned reality. which is the reality perceived and understood by the Buddhas.

The metaphor of a river is often used to describe that which separates the conditioned reality from the unconditioned reality. The final awakening from the conditioned reality into the unconditioned reality is often referred to as the crossing of the river to the Other Shore.
