Thusly is a silly word.  It's formed by taking thus and adverbing it by appending an -ly.  This is all well and good, except that thus is already an adverb1.

Yes, I'm aware I verbed a noun.  That's fine, since it extends the capabilities of language by taking one part of speech and giving it the properties of another.  But thus can already do all the adverb things, so adverbing it is a waste of time.  And it drives me batty.

Thus ends my catechism.

1 Yes, technically thus can also be a noun.  In that use it's basically frankincense.  It has very interesting etymology but nowadays is a relatively uncommon use of the word.

This has technically been a nodeshell rescue.  I feel very dashing.
