A vuz-peg is a hedgehog, in the dialect of Devonshire, England. It means "furze-pig"; the hedgehog's prickles are like furze, a bristly hedge, and its face is like a pig's, as is its rooting behavior and general muddiness.

Hedgehogs are also called tiggywinkles, as in Beatrix Potter's The Tale of Mrs. Tiggywinkle.
