The werebear is known in several world mythologies as a person who can assume the form of a bear or ursine of one kind or another.

The berserkers or berserkrgangr were similar in many ways. These norsemen wore belts made of bear pelts cut into strips which gave them incredible strength and dexterity. Some folks even believed that they could stand in fire or bite through the metal of a shield without injury.
