Medical care in the backcountry, or any situation where you have to deal with extended patient care (hours or days away from an emergency room) in the field, in a potentially hostile environment (extreme heat or cold, or surly polar bears), with improvised medical equipment. Outdoor trip leaders, National Park Service staff, and FBI agents receive specialized training in this field.
