The static in winter makes me feel dynamic. This is more an ode to winter and its wonderful if difficult weather than anything else.

There's a cold static
where it feels like things happen more slowly
and everything is frozen too stiff to move
so cold you can almost hear the flag crackle
as it's blown by the frigid wind
and just moving takes an effort
and everything is white and frozen

And there's a dry static
where you swear you can see sparks from your sneakers
as they scrape the saline sidewalks
so dry you can feel your hands harden
as they're blown by the arid wind
and just breathing dries your throat
and everything is brown and parched

and all the moisture is crystallized
preserved for a warmer, wetter time
when the frost and the ice melt
and the cold dry brown trees turn green again
