A group of suburbs and townships approximately 40 km east of Melbourne, Victoria in Australia (although actually about 20 km north of Dandenong itself), much of the Dandenong Ranges have been proclaimed a State Forest. Noted for large stands of eucalypts and gullies filled with tree ferns, the forest has tracks for hikers, and areas for day visitors. The area is also noted for its bird life; Sherbrooke Forest is famed throughout Australia for its population of lyrebirds.
