Mike McGill is one of skateboarding's forgotten innovators, but chances are you've heard of his namesake.

A member of the original Bones Brigade back in the 80's, McGill was one of the biggest vert riders around. Sadly, McGill was overshadowed by fellow teammate Tony Hawk, who was younger and even more talented. However, Mike managed to blow some minds when he unveiled his McTwist (get it? McGill? McTwist?) at a Del Mar skate contest in 1985. The McTwist was the most complicated air anyone had seen, with the most rotation at that time had been confined to one plane. This blew the old concept out of the water.

Years later, Tony Hawk upstaged him again, doing the first kickflip McTwist. Nowadays, McGill owns a skateshop in Encinitas, CA.
