A physical stimulus is one that directly affects one of the five senses. For example, being prodded with a piece of cold metal or being exposed to a bright flash of light.
A physical stimulus does not include things that are perceived via the senses, but heavily processed by the mind. For example, a painting is not much of a physical stimulus.
