Semi-legendary greeting common in the city of Winnipeg. Consists of a broken beer bottle to the face (presumably smashed on the bar while drunk) or alternately a whole beer bottle over the head. Injuries caused by broken bottles are an extremely common in Winnipeg hospitals.
The threat of receiving a Winnipeg handshake, however, is not a serious one unless one enjoys frequenting bars like the New Brunswick and The Ox, and disses the city on a regular basis. Outsiders from the Prairies give strong warnings about it, especially people from Saskatoon: it is an indicator of Winnipeg's bad reputation in Western Canada.
