Term referring to a certain genre of computer gaming, generally modern computer gaming. The genre was invented with the classic game Wolfenstein 3D, and since then has been massively popular.

A 3D shooter involves taking up armaments (generally guns, however many games with Samurai and Knights have fallen under the genre of 3D Shooters) and either killing purely for points to win a gruesome tournament or only killing to complete certain objectives.

In most cases a 3D Shooter is in first person perspective. This is where you see as if you were looking through the eyes of the character you're playing. Some 3D Shooters are, however third person perspective. This perspective is where the camera is positioned slightly above and usually to the left or the right of the character. Examples of this are Shadows of the Empire on Nintendo 64.
