The Kleinschmidt monolayer technique is also known as the Kleinschmidt spreading technique. It is used to prepare DNA for study under an electron microscope.

The DNA molecules are spread as a thin, positively charged protein film on water. The film is then transferred to a copper viewing grid and placed under the microscope. Uranium oxide is often added to the film for contrast.
