Okay, actually this came up in a chatterbox conversation about How to transmit information faster than light speed. It refers to people with a tenuous grasp of physics who think that if you just had a completely inelastic rod that was several light years long, between Earth and, say, Alpha Centauri, you could just nudge the rod at the earth end, and the Alpha Centauri end would move instantaneously. 'cuz it's a rod! It's not light!
On the other hand, it would be a pretty bitchin' name for a band.
