Defamation of the police (idea)

A trend that has been gaining momentum in the past 50 years. Even though I myself always make fun of cops (they JA'ed me for underage drinking), overall, I disagree with this view of law enforcement.

• The police perform a vital function in society. There is crime, and someone has to take care of the problem.
• Alright, so some cops are corrupt (Rodney King incident, Amadou Diallo incident, Abner Louima incident, etc.). That is a blatant generalization, so obviously wrong. That is what Internal Affairs is for.
• Police brutality has been a slogan for people against the existence of the police. One good case is The Battle Of Seattle / Washington. If rioters are going to wreck downtown Seattle, the police have no choice but to lay the smackdown on them. Besides, they were unauthorized. The protestors should at least TRY to get a permit.
• The law was created for the benefit of the people. People that don't obey it are arrested by the cops. So the police get the shitty end of the stick.
• Since the 1960s, the great uprising against authority has swept across America. One of the consequences of this so-called "enlightenment" of society is the defamation of the police.
• They are doing their jobs. Give them a break. Not all cops are abusive. It is a career job. You don't go too far in your career if you keep fucking up. That is obvious.

Again, I am not saying that all cops are clean. But I think this police brutality issue is way overblown. Would you want to live in a place without police?

Without order, society ceases to function or exist.
