The T-80U is one of the newer developments in the Russian "T" series of tanks. It has been in production since the late 1970's. It's GTD-1250 gas turbine engine can pull 1250 hp, produce 920 kW and push the tank to 70 km/h.

The T-80s weaponry includes the 9M119 Refleks, also known as the AT-11 Sniper, an anti-tank guided missile which is fired from the main gun. It also sports a 125mm 2A46M-1 automatic smoothbore gun for AP, APDS, HEAT and HE-FRAG ammunition. In addition, the T-80 is equipped with a 7.62mm PKT coaxial machine gun and a 12.7mm Utes air defence machine gun. Furthermore, the T-80 is protected by Explosive Reactive Armor (ERA).

T-80 variations:

T-80UK - This model is outfitted for command and control operations. It sports several countermeasure systems, a more advanced fire control system and extra communications gear.

T-80UM2 - The latest version of the T-80U with several new measures taken for heightened survivability, such as extra armor around the turret and relocation of ammunition to same. A computerized fire control system and thermal imaging sights were also added.
