It may have took twenty years and trillions of successful “Mom! Can I have a quarter!” whines, but someone finally did it: someone finally reached
3, 333, 360 points on a
Pac-man machine - a perfect game. That someone was Billy Mitchell, who broke the record on
July 3, 1999 at 4:45 PM in the Weirs Beach,
New Hampshire’s Funspot Family Center.
In all seriousness, this is a pretty tough accomplishment. In order to achieve a perfect score, you must do all of the following:
THE PERFECT PAC-MAN GAME
- Never die once. Not once – the entire game must be beaten on the first man.
- Eat every dot.
- Eat every energizer.
- Eat every blue ghost (16 per board).
- Eat every piece of fruit.
- Make it without dying to the 256th board, whose completion splits the screen in two and ends the game.
Bill achieved these goals during a grueling six hour game, the final hour of which is preserved forever on the official Funstop Family Center video (I’m totally serious).
When it was over Mitchell slowly backed away from the machine and said "I'll never have to play that darn game again."
His record is officially recorded in the Twin Galaxies Official Video Game and Pinball Book of World Records.
