non-profit organization of
Building Officials based in
Whittier,CA which
promulgates building codes and
fire-safety codes. These codes, most notably the
Uniform Building Code, are then adopted officially into
law by various
jurisdictions at the
state,
federal, and
local levels.
ICBO (as it is more commonly known) is one of three major code-promulgating organizations (BOCA, SBCCI, and ICBO) in the United States which have joined together to form the International Code Council (ICC) which has released the new jointly-developed I-Codes in an attempt to unify building standards worldwide.
