fugue: an altered state of consciousness in which what is happening now is unrelated to, or dissociated from what had happened then, in the preceding phase of existence; as for example in the alternating manifestations of dual or multiple personality [from Latin,
fuga, a flight]. A state of dissociation, which subsequently may be followed by an amnesia for events which occurred during the state of dissociation.
