Federals (person)

Federals, the name given to those who during the Civil War in the United States fought to maintain the Union of the Federal States, in opposition to the Confederacy. The name was never favored by loyal Unionists, and was much used by unfriendly foreigners, who sought to treat the contending forces as of equal national standing.
