Flatlander,

Welcome to Everything2, one of the Internet's oldest and still most intimidating blank white slates to scribble things on. You are receiving this message because, while playing a video game, a stray thought bolted into your head and you said "Holy fuck, I wonder if Blue's News still exists!" and then you typed in bluesnews.com just for shits and hit Enter. This happens to you about once a year. And there it was, goddamned Blue's News, with a July 13th 2015 dateline and a still surprisingly well-curated list of the day's PC game news all tidy and blue, looking exactly like it did in 2001 when you used to read that website every damn day.

And there, oddly, is where you first read the news that the much-loved CEO of Nintendo Ltd, Satoru Iwata, had passed away over the weekend. Then you clicked through to the news story on Kotaku that was collecting people's tributes to the departed, and someone had posted a somber image of a little Super Mario castle with the flag at half-mast, and it was just really poignant and sad. He was only 55.

And then you got in this reverie about both the fleetingness of our lives but also the vast gulf of time that seems to separate the older parts of the web from the parts that you use now, and soon enough you found yourself back here.

We hope that you have registered because you like what you have read on Everything2 and want to contribute again, even though you have created a new user account because some of your writeups from the early 2000s now seem embarrassing as fuck. In principle, everything has a place on Everything2, but that doesn't mean there is a place for just any old thing. The links at the bottom of writeup pages are a useful way to take a random walk through the site and get a feel for it. You may also find E2 Quick Start useful reading.

Verifying your account

To complete the registration process, take a walk around your neighborhood and try to remember the password to that pseudonymous Gmail address that you-- no joke-- originally created in order to purchase pornography. After a bunch of failed attempts, give thanks that you haven't changed your cell number in over a decade, recover your password, and click on the following link, or copy and paste it into your web browser:
