Extremely underused
figure of speech, in my opinion.
A zeugma is a word which is used to govern or modify two or more words, while appropriate to only one of them, or making different sense with each.
Examples:
- I set the table, the clock and fire to the kitchen.
- I ran out of coffee and the house to get some.
- "Mr. Pickwick took his hat and his leave." (Charles Dickens).
