My bottle of aftershave has sentimental value. It's a cheap bottle from Marks and Spencers, that contains an smell consisting of entirely sentimental memories with a slightly refreshing zest.

I've had it since my birthday in 1999, given to me by a girlfriend who I treated awfully. So it's a bottle of sad and guilty sentimental memories. How I remember the fact I committed various acts of meaness against her, I never loved her, but thats so far from the point, which is: how could I not even buy her a cheap bottle of perfume back for her birthday? I'll never know.

The sentimental value is why I've never thrown it away - it's still half-full, like the metaphorical glass.

I guess sentimental value is the emotional residue of material items.
