Opeth is quite possibly the best death metal band out there. Even if you don't like metal, I urge you to at least listen to some of the songs of their best (in my opinion) album--Morningrise. Their songs are incredibly complex, going from intense metal to melodic acoustics and back again several times in one song. Their vocals are mostly typical death metal vocals, with screaming and barking and such. However, when the lead singer sings with a clear voice it's amazing. He blows me away every time I listen to it and I've listened to them for almost a year now. Opeth is definitely not a typical metal band--I've never even heard of any other metal band using acoustic guitars. So what am I trying to say? Listen to their music!

Suggested songs:

  • To bid you farewell (extremely mellow, melodic song)
  • The night and the silent water (intense, emotion-filled guitar riffs)
  • Black rose immortal (20 minutes of a variety of music ranging from fast paced guitars and screaming vocals to acoustic guitars and a clean voice)
