Humanopathogenic worms (thing)

This is a collection of all nodes that are dealing with worms that are able to infect a human. There is a wide variety of nodes by various authors on this subject on e2 and this node attempts to categorize and assemble them. Filarial Worms:

• Dracunculus medinensis, causing Guinea Worm Disease
• Wuchereria bancrofti, causing Elephantiasis
• Brugia malayi, also causing Elephantiasis
• Loa Loa, causing Loiasis
• Onchocerca volvulus, causing river blindness

Tapeworms:

• Taenia saginata, the beef tapeworm
• Taenia solium, the pork tapeworm
• Echinococcus granulosus, causing hydatid disease
• Diphyllobothrium latum, the fish tapeworm

Flukes:

• Schistosoma haematobium,
• Schistosoma mansoni,
• Schistosoma japonicum, all causing schistosomiasis
• Clonorchis sinensis,
• Opisthorchis felineus,
• Opisthorchis viverrini, all three oriental liver flukes
• Paragonimus westermani, a lung fluke
• Fasciolopsis buski, an intestinal fluke

Soil transmitted helminths of other genus:

• Ascaris lumbricoides, the large round worm
• Ancylostoma duodenale a hookworm causing anaemia
• Trichocephalus trichiura, a whip worm causing Trichuriasis
• Strongyloides stercoralis, causing strongyloidiasis
• Enterobius vermicularis, the most common human worm infection: pinworms

Meat transmitted helminths of other genus:

• Trichinella spiralis, which causes trichinosis
