An Iraqi is a citizen of the
Middle Eastern nation of
Iraq, or a member of the ethnic group originating there. Iraqis are often stereotyped in the
American media as either
Saddam Hussein's duped and oppressed subjects, or as co-conspirators in his villainy. In truth, the poorly-understood situation in Iraq is far more complex than that. The recent movie
Three Kings took great pains to explore the suffering, the hopes, the dreams and the problems of the Iraqi people as their lives were interrupted by the
Gulf War.
Iraqis are overwhelmingly Muslim.
