The Little 500 is an annual bike race held in April at Indiana University in Bloomington since 1951. Founded by Howdy Wilcox Jr, the race is modeled after the Indianapolis 500. Money earned from ticket sales is used to provide scholarships for working University students. Thirty-three teams of up to four undergraduates compete on a half-mile cinder track for two-hundred laps, a total of 50.98 miles. The race is nationally televised on HD Net and locally on the radio station WIUX.
