I first encountered HMV stores while
studying abroad in
Japan. In a
Modernista! style of design reminiscent to the
Can I get MTV from Kissing? campaign, HMV bags for taking home your goodies were done with
bright pink lettering on a black background, forcing many
exchange students to
doubletake as they pondered the mystery of Japanese people carrying around
bags full of HIV.
The human
subconscious being such a powerful thing, HMV did its best to keep a good selection of
import music to satisfy all the foreigners who would thus stare for many hours and talk amongst themselves of the mysterious bag.
