American football player. Tunnel was among the first Afro-American men to play in the NFL, and one of the great undrafted rookies in the game's history. After playing with the University of Iowa, he allegedly walked into the office of the New York Giants in 1948 and demanded a tryout. The coaching staff were impressed, allowed him the opportunity, and never regretted it. The story could have happened in the 1940's; it would be an impossibility now.

He played with the Giants under legendary coach Vince Lombardi, and later moved with Lombardi to the Green Bay, where he played Defensive Back for the Packers from 1959-1960.

Tunnel has been inducted into the Football Hall of Fame.
