Backwhen a day when things didn't have to be particular, the world wide web used uniform resource locators (URLs) to locate documents; however, now URLs are known as URIs. A URL is of the form protocol:server/directory/file. For example in the URL (http://everything.slashdot.org/everytinh.pl), the protocol is HTTP, the server is everything.slashdot.org, and the file is everything.pl.
